Artist Statement:

I am an artist who works in a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking, ceramics, bookmaking, digital art and drawing to depict cozy interior spaces as well as highly detailed pattern work. In an effort to appeal to my younger self as well as the nostalgia of my audience, I create works that form a comfortable experience where you can feel safe to explore your own creativity and imagination, just as everyone should be able to do as a child.

When I was a child, I was diagnosed with cancer, and I spent a lot of my time in hospitals, clinics, and waiting rooms. Spending so much time in these sterile and barren environments I was surrounded by generic and bland artwork. In the work I do, I create cozy and safe spaces that I would have much preferred to spend time in, as well as intricate pattern work and mandalas that would have been much more interesting and lively to look at than what I was exposed to in waiting rooms and hospital environments. By creating artwork that I would have wanted to see, or the things that I wished I could’ve had during my time fighting cancer, this intrinsically means I am working with nostalgia and memory strongly tied to my past. I hope to appease these aspects of my audience that relate to experiences like these, as well as those currently going through a similar situation.
